Adult Chess Classes

NOTE: We do not offer classes during the summer.

At ACC, we believe that chess is for everyone. So no matter what age you are or your skill level, we have a class for you!

Beginner Classes

New to chess? No worries – our beginner classes are for you! Those who are completely new to chess should take the entire 4-week course. Students that are coming back to chess after an absence might skip Part I, if they are experienced and understand the Part I concepts well enough. A discussion with the Instructor before skipping Part I is advised. Once a student has completed this course, they are usually ready to move on to our Intermediate classes.

Below are the topics that are covered in this 4-week course. Depending on how students progress, this course could be taken again to reinforce the student’s understanding of the basics.

Classes take place from 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm most Mondays.

COMING SOON

Intermediate Classes

Already have the basics mastered? If you have a CFC rating between 800 to 1200, this class is for you. If you don’t have a rating, and you are are already comfortable with some basic principles of openings, middlegames and endgames, this class is also for you.

The ACC Intermediate curriculum builds a student’s tactical vision and introduces strategic thinking. Students will continue to develop general principles and concepts for each phase of the game. Most classes will allocate approximately half the time for supervised play, with feedback from the instructor. This is a great course to take in conjunction with playing in our weekly club tournament, as students get to apply their knowledge in a competitive setting.

Classes take place from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm most Mondays.
